There is no reliable countdown for edible effects
Edible timing varies by product, amount, and person. The CDC notes that intoxicating effects can take 30 minutes to two hours to begin and can last longer than expected. Food, medicines, alcohol, and other factors affect the experience. A time estimate cannot tell you when driving is safe.
Read serving and package amounts separately
The THC amount in an entire package differs from the amount in one serving. Keep the package so you can check the label rather than relying on appearance or memory. Different products with similar names may have different ingredients and concentrations.
Delayed effects are not a reason to take more
Taking more before effects develop can lead to poisoning or serious injury. Do not treat a generic article as a personal dosing schedule or assume that a familiar product guarantees a familiar response.
When to get help
Contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 for guidance if you are concerned about cannabis exposure. Call 911 in an emergency. Do not delay urgent help because an article says effects should wear off after a certain number of hours.
Store products securely
Keep edibles locked away from children and pets, in their original packaging. A cannabis gummy can resemble ordinary candy.
